The basics
What is Host-Caster?
A personal radio station made from your own music. Between songs, AI hosts you design break in like real radio presenters: they talk about the song that just played, the weather, your calendar, the news you follow and your day, and they banter with each other.
Do I need my own music?
Yes. Host-Caster plays music you already have: songs on your device, your own music server, internet radio, YouTube or Spotify Premium. It does not come with a music catalog of its own. On Android you can also keep your usual music app, and your hosts break in between its songs.
Which devices does it work on?
Any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and the Android app. The iPhone app is coming soon; until then, the web app works in Safari. One account works on all of them.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Songs on your device play without a connection. When your AI cannot be reached, a scripted fallback reads short lines between songs (the song, the time, the weather, your day) in your device's own voice, and your AI hosts are back as soon as it can be reached. The weather, calendar and news your hosts mention are kept from the last time you were online. If a break is not ready in time, the music simply goes on.
Hosts, AI and voices
What can my hosts talk about?
The songs, the time of day, the weather, your calendar, your email, the news you follow, birthdays and other life events, your notes and reminders, and fun facts. You pick the topics for each station, how often the hosts talk (every song, or every few) and for how long.
Do I need an AI account or an API key?
Not with AI brain included or Everything included. Otherwise, connect the AI you already use with its key, or run a model on your own computer. Until an AI is connected, your hosts read short scripted lines so the music never goes quiet.
What is the scripted fallback?
Your hosts are AI hosts. The scripted fallback only keeps the show going when there is no AI to write a break: before you connect one, when it cannot be reached or is offline, when it is too slow, or when a plan or usage limit is reached. Then your hosts read a few short scripted lines about the song, the time, the weather and your day, and the music never goes quiet. Host-Caster tells you on Home when this happens, and your AI hosts are back on the next break once the AI is there again.
Which AI models and voices can I use?
The included Host-Caster AI and voices, or your own: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, xAI Grok, OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek and others, or a local model with Ollama, LM Studio and similar tools. For voices: your device's own voices, OpenAI, ElevenLabs (your cloned voices too) and local engines such as Kokoro.
Can I talk back to the hosts?
Yes. Call in by voice or by typing, and your hosts answer you on air. The microphone is used only when you press the call-in button.
Can the hosts get things wrong?
Sometimes. The hosts are written by AI, so now and then they can mix up a fact or say something odd. They are there to keep you company, not to replace your news source or your calendar.
Music and privacy
Is my music uploaded anywhere?
No. Songs you import stay on your device and are never uploaded to us. Streaming services like YouTube and Spotify play in their own players, under their own terms.
Do you track me or show ads?
No ads, no analytics and no trackers. This website sets no cookies at all, and the app uses a cookie only to keep you signed in. We never sell your data.
What happens to my calendar and email?
Only what you connect is used, and only to write breaks. When your hosts need today's events or a summary of new mail, they are fetched at that moment and kept on your device, not on our server. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Plans and billing
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free has every feature: you bring your own AI and voice, or use your device's voices. You can stay on Free as long as you like.
What is the difference between the plans?
Only what is included. Voices included gives your hosts natural Host-Caster voices ($7.99 a month). AI brain included writes every break with Host-Caster AI ($7.99 a month). Everything included has both ($14.99 a month). Compare the plans.
What is fair use?
Each paid plan includes a generous monthly amount of AI and voice use, shown as approximate listening hours. If you reach it, a scripted fallback and your device's voice fill in until your next month starts, and the music never stops. More about fair use.
How do I cancel?
Open your account in the app and choose Cancel. Your plan keeps working until the end of the month you already paid for, and then it is not renewed. See Cancellation and refunds.
Self-hosting
Is there a free version I can run myself?
Yes. Host-Caster is open source under the MIT license. Self-host it on your own computer or server with Docker, with every feature and no limits from us.
Can I move between self-hosted and hosted?
Yes. Export a backup file from the app at any time and import it on the other side. Your hosts, stations and settings come with you.
